John is a member of the Copper Peak Board & started ski jumping when he was 5 years old. He advanced from little hills in his yard to larger hills in the Central Division. After qualifying, his dream came true to fly at Copper Peak. He rode the peak in 1978 and 1981 for a total of 25 times. John has many achievements including setting the National district record seven times; top scorer in his class in the central division in 1978, and qualifying to compete at the only ski flying hill in the Western Hemisphere, Copper Peak. He is a retired USPS employee.

John has been involved with Copper Peak since the beginning of construction around 1969. He even welded some of the profile bars on the landing hill with his father. John believes Copper Peak is extremely valuable for our area because it is the only ski flying hill in the western hemisphere and would be the only ski flying hill with a plastic surface in the world. Copper Peak could regain the world record on plastic. John has been a life-long advocate of the future of Copper Peak and shows his enthusiasm year after year by volunteering to man the chairlift, manage the elevator, mow the lawn, work in the chalet and anywhere else a helping hand is needed. He enjoys bike riding, snowshoeing, and spending time with his 6 grandchildren. Two of his grandchildren are even ski jumpers in Minneapolis! He is very excited to see the future of Copper Peak and what it will mean for the area.
