Charlie has led the non-profit Copper Peak organization to a prominent position whereby the facility has become a top attraction in the Western Upper Peninsula of Michigan. His experience developing several ski jumping venues and his participation as a technical assistant in many sanctioned competitions has been instrumental in developing the long range vision for Copper Peak. Charles spearheaded the revitalization of the facilities by encouraging substantial investments in the Copper Peak infrastructure allowing the organization to move to the next level and submit a bid for FIS certification and regular international competition. Charles is a retired educator having spent 39 years in the classroom at Gogebic Community College. For 20 years, he served a Chairman of the Math/Science Division of the college. As a former ski jumper, Charlie brings a lifetime of knowledge and experience to Copper Peak’s board of directors. He has been involved with Copper Peak since 1969, became a board member in 1995 and now serves as Board President (and has for the past 20 years). In 2013, he was inducted into the Ski Jumping Hall of Fame.

Charlie is the author of Soaring with the Eagles, a retrospective of the region’s history of ski jumping. As Copper Peak’s historian and champion, he exemplifies the incredible effort and commitment the region’s people have devoted to the vision of Copper Peak, both as a tourist attraction and as an international ski jumping venue.

As a physics major out of Purdue, his broad based science background is very useful in upgrading the chairlift and elevator and keeping the facility operating.
