John Kusz is a retired United States Postal Service employee and has been on the board since 2001. He has been interested in ski jumping since he was five years old. He has competed in competitions from the mid 60’s through the late 80’s. He has many achievements including setting the national distance record seven times; top scorer in his class in the Central Division in 1978, and qualifying to compete at the only ski flying hill in the Western Hemisphere, Copper Peak. John stands as the only ski jumper from the Gogebic Range to achieve this feat. During his competitive career, John was president of the Wolverine Ski Club. He actively participated in the first reconstruction of Copper Peak in 1976. John has been a life-long advocate of the future of Copper Peak and shows his enthusiasm year after year by volunteering to man the chairlift, manage the elevator, mow the lawn, work in the chalet and anywhere else a helping hand is needed.
